Full Version: Washed-out colors?

Hey, Johannes,

Once again, great tool you've put together. It makes it incredibly easy to organize my photoblog and upload new photos.

I've noticed, though, that if I have your software generate thumbnails for me, the colors on the thumbnails come out really washed out, compared to the original pictures. Without any ability to read the code, I'm guessing that it's using a restricted palette, perhaps "web safe" colors?

Is there anything I can modify to get the thumbnails using the same colors as the original picture?

You can see my photoblog for a few examples--I think the tiger and the fall leaves show the difference particularly strongly. The difference is more visible on a Mac than a Windows machine, but it's there on both platforms. http://www.whosefaultyvision.com/photoblog/

Thanks,

Update: Having trouble posting a reply for some reason, so I'll just append it to this message instead.

I just checked the tiger photo on a Windows machine, and contrary to what I said above, the colors look equally washed out on both the thumbnail and the full photo. So I guess the bigger problem for me is figuring out why my colors look washed out in general on Windows, but that's not a YAPB problem.

The thumbnails are noticeably different on the Mac, but since most of my readers will probably be using Windows, I need to solve the bigger problem.

If I fix the photos so that the colors look right on Windows machines, and the thumbnails are still washed out, I'll let you know, but for now never mind.
I finally figured out the problem, and it had nothing to do with YAPB. I had the wrong color profile embedded in the image files.

So mark this one "solved", or delete it entirely, I guess.
I'll leave the topic beneath "solved" so other mac users experiencing your problem may see your solution.

Happy photoblogging!

Johannes
