YAPB => WordPress Attachment Migration

You want to stop using YAPB, but your images don’t appear as attachments so you would have to reupload all of them again?

Don’t search no longer – even if i’m sorry to see you go, i’m also happy to help you to leave YAPB.

Just download the YAPB to WordPress Migration plugin:

After upload and activation, go under “tools/YAPB Migration” and press “start migration”.

Older versions

If you’re using an older version of WordPress (please be adviced to update soon) you may download one of the following versions. Please mention that those version are deprecated.

Yet-Another-Photoblog-beta-1.7.4.zip
for WordPress 2.3.2 discontinued
ZIP-File, 714 KB
Yet-Another-Photoblog-beta-1.5.2.zip
for WordPress 2.1.x and 2.2.x discontinued
ZIP-File, 480 KB
Yet-Another-Photoblog-beta-1.3.1.zip
for WordPress 2.0.x discontinued
ZIP-File, 314 KB

Installation

The installation consists of three parts: Upload, setting a directory permission (on unix/linux systems) and activation of the plugin.

Upload the files

  1. Unzip the content of the zip-file into an empty directory
  2. Upload the yapb-directory directly into the wp-content/plugins folder of your wp-installation

Set a directory permission
(only on YAPB version < 1.9.14)

Notice: Deprecated since YAPB 1.9.14 – YAPB tries to create a cache directory under wp-content/uploads. You don’t need this on windows systems (or you have to wrestle with the windows directory permissions).

  1. The used open source thumbnailing engine phpThumb needs one directory access for storing its cache files. Set the permission of the directory wp-content/plugins/yet-another-photoblog/cache/ to 777.

Activate the plugin

  1. Go to admin panel / plugins and activate it
  2. Enjoy!

Support YAPB

Do you like YAPB? Do you use it regulary to show your photos or images? Did YAPB save you time? Or you just want to give something back for the time spent to create, maintain and support YAPB? Just Donate a little ammount so i may buy a good book, DVD, etc. or just pay some server traffic. Bigger ammounts (if any) will be invested in my photo equipment of course ;-)

Thanks alot from Salzburg!

Set a backlink

Yes – This plugin was released under the GPL and you’re nearly free to do all you want to do.

But i’d be pleased very much to see some backlinks to this site.

This plugin needs a lot of my spare time – So it would be a great sign of respect if you use one of these buttons (or just place a normal href) on your site:

</p> <p>#buttons { margin-bottom:10px; } #buttons tr td { margin:0;padding:0 10px 10px 0; } #buttons tr td.border { padding-top:10px;border-top:1px solid silver; }

To set a backlink, just download the button of your desire (Or have a look into the included linkback/yapb-buttons.zip) and include a link something like that in your footer.php (Or wherever you want):

<a href=”http://johannes.jarolim.com/yapb” target=”_blank”><img src=”01a.gif” border=”0″ /></a>

Feedback

Please be so kind to provide positive and/or negative feedback so i can improve this piece of code if necessary.

Since there is definitly some feedback and the pages grow and grow – I suggest you use the yapb-forum to ask questions, maybe help each other, etc.

      If any would be willing to provide some hands-on support maybe through free teamviewer. I have installed the plugin, and I must be doing something wrong, because it doesn't behave like I expect it to: upload and display a picture in the post, or better said, as the post. Am I missing something? Please help. I have tons of pictures I'd like to upload, but am stuck with no pictures so far. :-(

      I am in New York. have skype, have phone, have teamviewer. Thank you.

    You should post some detailed instructions on how to make a post. I have tried to make a post and I get the error on line 9 at which you said is because the post doesn't have an image. Mine has and I still get the error. Or tell me how to insert a picture in the post.
    The plugin is great but i would like it to work!!!

    Thanks for the wonderful plugin.

    I had tried your plugin on my blog with PHP 5.2.8 and it worked great, however I am having issues after upgrading my wordpress install to PHP 5.3... I am unable to view any blog posts or pages unless I disable the yapb plugin from the admin page in wordpress. Any suggestions please ?

    Thanks.

      Hello,
      Before everything, Johannes, thank you for this excelent software, I've been using it for sometime now and I'm realy happy with it.
      I'm using WP 2.8.4, on windows, and YAPB 1.9.20. I've just upgraded to PHP 5.3, and at first YAPB failed. PHP was returning this error : "Warning: Parameter 1 to Yapb::_filter_the_posts() expected to be a reference, value given in C:\www\blog\wp-includes\plugin.php on line 166".
      After some search, it seems that in PHP 5.3 callback functions cannot have a by-reference argument. I found this post about Dotclear 2 that talks about this : http://blog.famillecollet.com/post/2009/04/13/Dotclear-2-and-PHP-5.3.0.

      So I changed Yapb.class.php on line 561 :
      function _filter_the_posts(&$posts) {
      for :
      function _filter_the_posts($posts) {

      I don't know all the consequences of that change, but it works for me.
      Hope it helps,
      Lear

        Hi Lear -

        Thanks for your report and debugging - 1.9.21 was released five minutes ago ;-)

        Feedback is very important for me - Since i run PHP 5.2.9 on my VPS i couldn't see that problem.

        thanks again and
        greets from Salzburg!

    EXIF data seems to give me an incorrect output with my geocoded shots. Latitude and Longitude are only output as "Array." I know the geocoding data is there because I can see it with other programs. Am I doing something wrong?

    Thanks,

    Hello, I'm sorry but I have to point out that the installation instructions read: Activate and Enjoy. Enjoy what? Seriously, there is no information on what this plugin does or how it does it. I would love to try implementing photos in WP but how does it function?

    Dear Johannes, thank you for your great plugin which I'm using your plugin with David Moxey's Reflection. However, I wish there is more tutorial on what to do with the setting for YAPB in WordPress, especially under the Automatic Image Insertion. I'm totally lost there. All is running well for my site, except at my homepage, when you click 'Previous' the next photo just won't appear. I have no clue at all to what is the problem.

    Appreciate your help very much.
