Kaum spielen DICE/EA ein Update für Battlefield3 ein, funktioniert nix mehr. Ich kann maximal ein paar Sekunden in einen Multiplayer Server einsteigen: Spielabsturz.

50 Euro super investiert

Als alter Battlefield-Veteran ist man ja so einiges gewohnt – aber dass das Spiel gar nicht mehr spielbar ist: nett. Das hatte ich noch nicht.

Als zusätzlicher “Zuckerl” wird die bf3.exe nach dem Update nun von Avira Antivirus als “TR/Patched.Gen” erkannt.

Fazit

Wenig Spaß für viel Geld. Ich hoffe, dass ich das Spiel nach dem nächsten Update wieder spielen kann.

Alle, die so dumm sind, das Spiel kurz nach dem Release zu kaufen, darf man Beta- oder meiner derzeitigen Meinung nach sogar Pre-Alpha-Tester nennen: “Early adopters”, wie es auf gut neudeutsch ja jetzt heißt.

Update

Die folgende Lösung aus dem Battlefield3-Forum funktioniert für mich und andere – Peinlich nur, dass man etwas an Windows ändern muß, um das Spiel zum Laufen zu bekommen:

Windows 7/Windows Vista

* In Windows 7/Vista go to Start menu. Go to Accessories. Locate the command prompt shortcut and hover mouse over it. Right Click on the shortcut then select Run as Administrator.
* In the command prompt type this exactly:
bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2500
Then hit enter.
* Make sure you get a message back confirming the change was made. To verify the entry is there you can type just bcdedit, hit enter, and you should see the entry now listed.
* Then close the command prompt. You just told Vista to increase user virtual address (userva) space to 2500MB.
* Changes take effect on reboot.
Now reboot the PC because Windows needs to set the userva at 2500 which only happens after startup.
If you skip any step it will not work. When you have rebooted you should be good to go. Run the game as normal with the original game shortcut.
TO UNDO THE CHANGES
Open command prompt as administrator and type: bcdedit /deletevalue increaseuserva. That deletes the entry.
Reboot and you are back to normal.

Kaum ein Blackberry in der Hand – Muss ich schon das Admin Interface testen – und geht wirklich laessig. Das ist definitiv die Bestaetigung dafuer, das sauberes HTML was kann.

Ich werde zukuenftig definitiv alle Userinterfaces nur noch mit sauberem HTML aufbauen, wenn ich kann.

Finally: Klemens und ich haben den Server in einer epochalen Nacht und Nebel – Compiling Aktion auf den neuesten Stand gebracht:

Dank dem Freetype-Plugin funktioniert jetzt auch die Captcha-Abfrage bei den Kommentaren im Photoblog, was ich persönlich ziemlich lässig finde. Zusätzlich habe ich einiges über Linux-Compiling, dessen Tücken und natürlich über den famosen safe_mode von PHP gelernt.
